A people-first approach to fertility benefits earns top honors at BrokerTech Connect.

BrokerTech Ventures (BTV) is proud to announce that Flora Fertility (FLORA) has been named the winner of the 2026 Innovation Challenge, earning top honors among innovative startups that participated in this year's competition at BrokerTech Connect: Chicago. Sponsored by The BrokerTech Fund and ManchesterStory, the Innovation Challenge highlights emerging companies developing innovative solutions for the insurance industry.

Showcasing the Industry's Most Promising Innovators

A cornerstone of BrokerTech Connect, the Innovation Challenge brings together brokers, carriers, investors, and industry innovators to discover technologies addressing some of the industry's most pressing challenges. The competition provides startups with a unique platform to pitch their businesses before insurance and risk management leaders while demonstrating their market potential and real-world impact.

This year, 15 startups took part in the challenge, representing a diverse range of solutions designed to help shape the future of insurance and employee benefits. Following the competition, FLORA emerged as the winner for its innovative approach to fertility benefits and its potential to address a growing need among employers and employees alike.

Addressing a Growing Need in Employee Benefits

FLORA stood out for its mission to give individuals extensive fertility coverage (up to age 45) that follows them from job to job, while giving brokers and employers a stable, predictable way to expand reproductive health benefits without taking on additional financial risk. As organizations continue to seek meaningful ways to support workforce wellbeing, fertility benefits have become an increasingly important part of the conversation.

"We were thrilled to win the Innovation Challenge," said Laura McDonald and Dr. Christy Lane, Co-Founders and Co-CEOs of FLORA. "For us, it's evidence of what we see daily in broker and employer discussions: the demand and momentum for voluntary fertility benefits is real. FLORA is currently the only company in this space. We are committed to offering a new model of fertility care that protects both employers and employees from rising healthcare costs, with proactive affordable coverage. We are thrilled that brokers want to bring this to their groups of all sizes, introducing a very humanity-driven model to benefits, focused on employee enhancement and care."

Their recognition reflects growing market demand for innovative benefits solutions that help employers support employees during important life stages while effectively managing healthcare expenditures.

Supporting Innovation Through Strategic Investment

As the winner of the Innovation Challenge, FLORA will have the option to receive a $100,000 investment from ManchesterStory, helping accelerate the company's growth and expand its impact within the employee benefits market.

ManchesterStory and The BrokerTech Fund share a commitment to identifying and supporting founders developing transformative solutions for the insurance industry. Beyond financial support, the competition offers participants valuable visibility and connections with brokers, carriers, investors, and other industry stakeholders.

"BrokerTech Connect's Innovation Challenge is exactly the kind of platform our industry needs — one that puts emerging InsurTech companies directly in front of the brokers and carriers who can help them scale," said Nicole Gunderson, Partner at ManchesterStory.

All participating startups were evaluated using a standardized judging rubric designed to ensure a consistent and objective selection process. A panel of industry leaders from ManchesterStory, Holmes Murphy, The Baldwin Group, M3 Insurance, and UNICO Group assessed each company based on several key criteria, including the strength of the founding team, market opportunity, the significance of the problem being solved, the quality and differentiation of the solution, potential for a defensible competitive advantage, and the effectiveness of the company's go-to-market strategy. Judges also considered each startup's alignment with the broker distribution model, market traction, and ability to scale, ultimately identifying the company best positioned to deliver meaningful value across the insurance and employee benefits ecosystem.

"FLORA's win this year is well-deserved; the team has built something that genuinely solves a real pain point in the market. Recognition like this doesn't just validate the product — it opens doors that accelerate everything that comes next. ManchesterStory and The BrokerTech Fund are proud to sponsor the Innovation Challenge."
